Germany’s sympathy with Iranians ‘hypocritical’: Iran envoy

Tehran, IRNA – The Iranian envoy attending the UN Human Rights Council’s Special Session on Iran criticized Germany for requesting the Thursday session, saying that Berlin’s claims of expressing sympathy with the Iranians are hypocritical.

Khadijeh Karimi, who is the director of international affairs for Iran's vice president for women and family affairs, said that Germany supplied chemical weapons to the former Iraqi regime for use against the Iranian people during the 1980s imposed war on Iran.

Therefore, she added, Germany’s expressing concern about the human rights situation in Iran is a hypocritical act.

Karimi said that the countries that claim to be defending human rights and have organized this session have seriously violated the fundamental rights of the Iranian people, especially women and children, by imposing cruel sanctions against Iran.

These countries cannot claim that they are supporting the rights of Iranian women and children, she said, adding that their claims are deceptive because they have nurtured the terrorist groups which are responsible for the deaths of over 17,000 Iranians over the past 40 years.

Karimi also criticized certain Western countries as well as the Persian-language media outlets that they support for taking measures aimed at creating riots in Iran following the death of young woman Mahsa Amini in mid-September.
